According to a new story from NBC, Bill Gates owns the most private farmland in the United States, and the potatoes that go into McDonald’s fries grow on his fields.
According to NBC, potatoes for McDonald’s fries are cultivated in fields in Washington state that are so large that they can be seen from space, using data from The Land Report and its own study.
According to revised data from NBC, Gates owns 269,000 acres of farmland across 18 states, making him America’s largest private agricultural owner.
McDonald’s and Gates spokespeople did not immediately reply to Insider’s request for comment.
Gates’ US farmland is controlled both personally and through his investment business, Cascade, according to The Land Report.
Cascade was recently referenced in a New York Times investigation into allegations of unethical workplace behavior.
After Bill and his wife, Melinda French Gates, announced their divorce after 27 years of marriage, his land ownership has come under examination.
According to Bloomberg, Gates is the fourth richest person in the planet, with a net worth of $144 billion.
After their divorce, French Gates is anticipated to become one of the world’s wealthiest women.
Because they do not have a prenuptial agreement, TMZ was the first to reveal that the couple will share their possessions through a “separation contract” outside of court.
