Dr. Dre is now legally single after a court granted his divorce request from Nicole Young.
According to TMZ, the 56-year-old artist had been married to Nicole since 1996, but they are now “legally divorced.”
However, the couple is still arguing about the legality of a prenuptial agreement.
Dre maintains that the prenup is lawful, but Nicole argues that the hip-hop legend swore he wouldn’t enforce it and wants it annulled.
The 51-year-old former lawyer previously claimed that the ‘I Need a Doctor’ singer tore up many copies of the prenuptial agreement after they married because he regretted “pressuring” her to sign it.
Dre, on the other hand, has denied pushing Nicole to sign the contract or even ripping it up, pointing to a section in the contract that states that any changes must be made in writing.
He is alleged to have wanted to take their divorce out of the court system and have it handled by a private judge so that it could be done off of the spotlight, but Nicole allegedly refused.
Dre was ordered by a judge in April to pay Nicole’s divorce attorneys $500,000.
She had requested Judge Michael Powell in Los Angeles to order Dre to pay her $2 million per month in spousal support and $5 million in legal expenses.
However, after a hearing, a Superior Court Judge ordered Dre to pay her attorneys $500,000 within 10 days, and a judgment on spousal support has been postponed until July 8.
Dre agreed to pay Nicole $2 million in spousal support in January, which was to last until April 14.
Nicole had requested moreover $2 million a month, but Dre’s lawyer had earlier informed the court that his client had been willingly paying all of Nicole’s costs since the couple split up.
She also requested $5 million in attorney’s costs, but her estranged husband stated he had already paid about $1 million willingly, despite the fact that the divorce papers were not filed until June of last year.
Nicole has accused Dre of mental and physical abuse, which he has denied.
