After slipping while taking a selfie by a waterfall, a Hong Kong Instagram socialite has tragically died.
According to the Sun, the shocking incident occurred after Sofia Cheung, 32, and three friends went on a trip to Ha Pak Lai park around 11 a.m. Saturday.
The influencer had decided to shoot selfies at the park’s Pineapple Mountain site — a popular spot for hikers at sunset — when she apparently lost her balance and fell into the 16-foot pool below.
Cheung’s shocked friends immediately dialled 911, who responded shortly and rushed the woman to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The daring young lady had a habit of posting photos of herself posed on the edge of cliffs to her Instagram account, with the phrase “Life should be fun, not foolish.”
Cheung’s most recent Instagram photo, on July 9, showed her relaxing in the surf with a boogie board.
“Better Days are Coming,” the caption stated. “Saturday and Sunday are their names.”
Condolences have poured in for the horrific photo, with one devastated fan adding, “RIP don’t want to believe this happened to you.”
“Thought better days were coming when Saturday and Sunday?” lamented another. Every day, I’m going to miss your discussion. I will always love you.
“My lovely Sofi, may you rest in peace.”
Cheung isn’t the first person to die after taking an ill-advised photograph.
An Indian woman died in January after falling to her death while taking selfies besides a waterfall.
Last year, a Kazakhstan lady died after falling more than 100 feet over a cliff in Turkey while posing for a photo to commemorate the end of the local coronavirus lockdown.
