Jason Sudeikis has spoken out about his breakup with ex-fiancée Olivia Wilde, saying that he hopes their split will make more sense in the future.
In GQ’s August edition, he remarked, “I’ll have a better grasp of why in a year, and an even better one in two, and an even better one in five, and it’ll move from being, you know, a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle.”
After more than seven years together with two children, Otis, 7, and Daisy, 4, the former “Saturday Night Live” actor stated the couple “broke up in November 2020.”
Sudeikis, 45, was spotted with Harry Styles, who is ten years her junior, just two months after she and Wilde, 37, called it quits. T
he news of their new relationship generated a media frenzy.
According to Sudeikis, the entire event is one you “either learn from or make excuses about,” as he told GQ.
“You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but you also try to learn something from it that isn’t immediately obvious,” he said.
Sudeikis made headlines himself a month after Wilde and Styles, 27, made headlines by attending the Golden Globes’ virtual ceremony in a tie-dye sweatshirt.
He won best actor in a comedy for “Ted Lasso,” but his fumbling and meandering acceptance speech raised suspicions about whether he was high.
There were speculations at the time that he was still hurting from the breakup and wasn’t ready to date again.
Sudeikis confirmed to GQ, “I was neither high nor heartbroken.” “So it came across as, ‘This is how I feel.’ ‘I believe in progressing.'”
“I wore that sweatshirt because I didn’t want to f–king wear the upper part of a Tom Ford suit,” he explained.
“I adore Tom Ford suits, but it seemed a little strange.”
“Ted Lasso,” currently in its second season, has brought the comedian a lot of success.
The AppleTV+ series follows an American football coach who relocates to England to coach a soccer team, despite a rift with his wife.
Sudeikis revealed that he and Wilde came up with the concept while out to dinner in 2015, though he now wonders whether it was some kind of manifestation.
“I’m not sure if that’s true,” the actor told the publication.
“I mean, isn’t it just a smidgeon of what Oprah [Winfrey] has been teaching us for years? What do you mean, manifestation? What is the power of thought? You know, that’s a reversal of ‘The Secret.'”
Despite the ups and downs of the past year, Sudeikis said he’s proud of how he’s dealt with them.
“I believe that if you have the chance to hit rock bottom, however you define it, you can either become 412 bones or land as an Avenger,” he remarked. “I have chosen to land in the manner of an Avenger.”
“I don’t know,” he said when asked how he accomplished it. “It’s just how I got here.”
Sudeikis was photographed with girlfriend Keeley Hazel for the first time in June.
