Kamaru Usman won the welterweight title by knocking out Jorge Masvidal in the second round at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday for UFC 261. Usman entered the fight with a 17-fight win streak under his belt.
Usman ended Masvidal with a flurry of punches after sending him to the canvas with a huge right hang.
He went on to say nice things about Masvidal:
“You gave me a boost. You forced me to enter the workshop… I informed everyone that I’m still improving. As long as I’m doing this, the sky is the limit for me.”
Chris Weidman had a horrific open fracture in his leg just moments into his match against Uriah Hall earlier in the night.
Anderson Silva’s notorious leg injury is being linked to the injury, which is considered one of the worst in the sport’s history.
After the fight, Hall told Joe Rogan,
“I have nothing but admiration for Chris Weidman.” “He is without a doubt one of the brightest. It’s a strange story, but he was the first man I ever fought who defeated me and taught me to be afraid. I decided to put on a fantastic show. I’m so sorry for him. I hope he’s doing well. I give my best wishes to the family. It’s the most unpleasant aspect of the sport…. I’m hoping he gets better.”
