Lady Gaga’s father claims he never believed the story that his daughter’s stolen French bulldogs were discovered tied to a pole by a woman in February.
On Friday, the superstar’s father, Manhattan restaurateur Joe Germanotta, told ExtraTV.com host Billy Bush, “I thought it was unusual when they got the phone call that this woman found the dogs tied to a pole, you know, that’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever read.”
“I say, if you’re walking down the street and see a couple of dogs tied to a pole, are you going to call a hotline number first?” Germanotta mentioned the following.
Five people were arrested in connection with the dognapping case on Thursday, including “hero” Jennifer McBride, who said she discovered the puppies in exchange for a $500,000 reward.
During the wild Feb. 24 West Hollywood heist, McBride was arrested as a suspected accomplice of the three men accused of stealing Gaga’s puppies, Gustav and Koji, and shooting their walker.
James Jackson, 18, Jaylin White, 19, and Lafayette Whaley, 27, are charged with attempted murder and robbery in connection with the armed robbery, with Jackson allegedly shooting Ryan Fischer in the chest before fleeing with Koji and Gustav.
McBride, 50, is the mother of one of the three men’s husbands, according to prosecutors. Harold White, a fifth male, has been charged as an accessory to the crime.
“What they did to Ryan was just awful, and he’s still recovering — he still has some physical therapy to go through,” Germanotta said, adding that the armed robbery was “like someone taking one of your kids.”
“I just hope that someone in LA finally prosecutes these kids,” she says. This was an armed attempted assassination, according to the restaurant owner. “I just hope they don’t let them out on the street again.”
At the time of the theft, prosecutors say the perpetrators were unaware that the dogs belonged to the “Poor Romance” singer. All except McBride are alleged gang members, according to police.
The group’s next court appearance is set for May 11.
