Nicki Minaj never fails to delight when she goes live on Instagram, and Thursday night was no exception.
She publicly co-signed emerging artist BIA and unveiled their new track “Whole Lotta Money (Remix)” in a matter of hours, stopped Drake from taking a shot at BIA, and explained why she doesn’t usually deal with other female rappers.
Nicki’s last IG Live session also featured her mentor Lil Wayne, who came on for a few minutes to clear the air on reports that he had married as well as answer some of Nicki’s music-related queries.
At one point, the Beam Me Up Scotty artist informs Wayne that his guest feature on “Seeing Green” was recently named the fifth-best verse of the year by Complex, and fans were able to watch his reaction in real time.
“So your verse one, ‘Seeing Green,’ won the fifth-best verse of the year so far,” Nicki informs Lil Wayne on Instagram Live, and the legendary rapper scoffs.”
Weezy adds, matter-of-factly, “That sucks.” Nicki chuckles at his reaction and wonders whether he feels this way because he isn’t ranked first. “What the hell is a fifth?”
Nicki Minaj continues to encourage him by reminding him that his verse was compared to every single rap release in 2021, to which Lil Wayne responds, “I’m colder than every f*cking rap verse that was published this year.”
Drake’s verse on “Lemon Pepper Freestyle,” J. Cole’s first verse on “Let Go My Hand,” Lil Baby’s feature on Drake’s “Wants and Needs,” and Tyler, the Creator’s fourth stanza on “WILSHIRE” round out Complex’s top five verses of 2021.
Lil Wayne is still winning at the end of the day, since one of his artists has two songs in the top five spots, but it’s remarkable to watch the Funeral rapper remain so dedicated to his work this far into his career.
