Rumer WillisBody shamers have criticised Rumer Willis of seeming too skinny in a recent social media post, and she has been “bummed out.”
Willis stated on her Instagram Story Tuesday, “I was left pretty upset after the barrage of some really inappropriate comments left on my pic I shared yesterday I was left really bummed because I was really loving the hilarious pics I took.”
“It was a bizarre angle that even made me feel like I looked smaller than I do in real life,” she said, referring to a snapshot of herself in an orange and yellow costume.
The 32-year-old daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis said it was inappropriate to make comments about people’s bodies and called out her detractors.
“Even if you believe it is your job or even your right to post your unvarnished opinions or judgments about my body for everyone to see…
“No, it isn’t,” she wrote.
She also stated that shaming someone’s physique if you suspect they are suffering from an eating disorder is futile and can cause more harm than good.
“Also, just to be clear, coming for me in my comments and telling me how I’m too skinny or I need to eat is totally not helpful and incredibly body shaming,” she said.
“Instead of making inflammatory public comments, if you were truly concerned for my health and [sic] welfare, write them a dm and have a private dialogue with them, truly asking how they are doing and if they would like support.”
“Body shaming of any type is something I will not stand for,” she continued.
Willis also shared a photo of herself from a different perspective with her forceful statement, demonstrating that she is not as slim as the previous photo depicted.
She said, “For comparison, this is another viewpoint where you can see what I genuinely look like.”
Willis had previously shared a photo of herself wearing orange bell bottoms and a yellow graphic shirt while standing next to a matching luggage.
“I’m leaving on a whim,” she went on. “And honestly, I’m not sure if I’ll be back….,” she captioned the photo.
Willis has already spoken out about her difficulties with body image.
Willis told Glamour in 2015, “For a long time I just wanted to look tiny and androgynous,” adding, “I wanted to have no butt; I wanted to have no boobs.”
“When you grow up in the public glare like I did, everyone is staring at you and waiting for you to do something insane, say something incorrect, or have a meltdown,” she continued.
“I was often bullied for my appearance, therefore I had a lot of issues with my body image.”
“Strangers say the nastiest things,” she said, referring to how much pressure comes from social media.
The actor, who has been clean for four years, has also spoken about her anxieties.
