When it comes to experimenting with new appearances, Shakira is always willing to give it a shot. Some styles, on the other hand, she’d rather forget.
In 2012, she had a short, blonde ‘do when receiving an award from the French Ministry of Culture.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer was reminded of the “awful” trim when reflecting on her fashion journey for British Vogue, blaming the “very horrible haircut” on the mother of her lover Gerard Piqué.
“‘Hey, why don’t you cut your hair?’ she said. It’s severely harmed.’ ‘Ah, uh-huh,’ I said.” Shakira remembered seeing the photo and imitated the cutting action.
“The biggest blunder of my life. I’m not going to take any more cosmetic advise from you, mother-in-law.”
She did, however, adore the Azzedine Alaa dress she wore in the photo. She remarked of the late designer, “May he rest in peace.”
“And I remember it fondly because he was a wonderful buddy. And he always helped me out with my outfits whenever I had an occasion because clothing is a difficult subject for me. He was the one who sorted me out. And, well, the people at Alaa continue to do so. I hold them in great regard…. His style has always fit a woman’s shape, especially one who isn’t very tall, therefore they have always suited me. Mother-in-law, it’s a pity about my haircut.”
Shakira deconstructed 19 outfits in the film, some of which she adored (like the pink Mac Duggal gown she wore to the 2016 Zootopia premiere) and others which she despised (like the leopard print dress she wore to AFI Fest in 2007).
Others, like the dress she wore to the 2002 DIVAS red carpet, left her perplexed.
She thought aloud, “Goodness, what was I thinking there?” “I’m not sure what I was thinking.”
She also couldn’t forget about her gorgeous Super Bowl outfit, which included a Peter Dundas gown with Swarovski crystals and matching boots.
The Grammy winner said of the boots, “They were black, then we covered them with Swarovski.” “It took three days, crystal by crystal, to cover them.”
