A lady died after falling approximately 40 feet (12 meters) at an indoor climbing gym in northern Colorado, according to police.
The lady fell at Ascent Studio Climbing & Fitness on Saturday, according to Fort Collins police spokesman Brandon Barnes, and it seems she got detached from the auto-belay system.
No defective equipment was discovered by the investigators. The name of the climber has not been disclosed by the Larimer County coroner’s office.
The Fort Collins climbing gym issued a statement on Tuesday, calling the fall a “tragic occurrence” and offering condolences to the climber’s friends and family.
The auto-belay devices that protect climbers from falling will also not be utilized until a comprehensive inquiry is conducted, according to the statement.
According to The Coloradoan, fatal incidents at indoor climbing gyms are exceedingly uncommon, with only a few occurring in the United States in the previous decade.
A guy died in 2014 while indoor climbing at the Boulder Rock Club.
